Jewelry Fabrication
 
For all levels of jewelry/metalworking students. Beginners will be given specific projects designed to introduce basic techniques such as sawing, filing, finishing, riveting, soldering, and stone-setting while also allowing room for creativity. Beginner’s toolkit needed-details for purchasing at first class meeting. Intermediate and advanced students are encouraged to develop individual projects and areas of emphasis with the teacher’s guidance. The $20 materials fee is included in the cost of the course.

 Beginning students will develop a suite of core skills that will provide a foundation for design and fabrication of jewelry works. Focus will be on learning to solder, filing, sawing, drilling, finishing, and the application of patinas. Initial work will be done in copper and brass. A sterling silver ring with a bezel-set cabochon will be the capstone. Students must provide the silver. Intermediate students will learn topics such as married metal, stone setting, rivets, reticulation, granulation, cuttle bone casting, mokume gane, etching, hollow forms, etc. The $20 material fee is included in the cost of the course

Explore several methods of adding color to metal shapes and wire.  Some will be completed in class and recipes will be provided for methods which require more time. Materials readily available in craft stores, art supply stores or your own cupboards. The $15 material fee is included in the cost of the course and includes  copper sheet metal, metal shapes, and wire, plus other materials used in class.  Register early!

Explore the tools and techniques to make one-of-a-kind wire bracelets. Learn to make jewelry findings (single-eye pins, double-eye pins, jump rings, wire-wrapped beads, dangles, and a simple clasp). You may bring your own supplies (16 & 18 gauge copper wire and beads that will string onto the wire). Class tools are available for use. The $20 material fee is included in the cost of the course.

Stamping on metal is a fun and easy way to personalize and customize your jewelry. You can begin with a pre-cut metal blank or cut out shapes from sheet metal. This workshop will cover the basics to get you started, including tools, measuring and stamping tricks, as well as options to artificially age or oxidize your finished pieces to make your personal words or sentiments pop. The $20 material fee is included in the cost of the course.

You will learn to make a trendy leather and metal wrap bracelet.  In addition to working with leather cording, you will learn to make spiral dangles, a handmade wire clasp and how to finish your leather ends.  Material fee includes everything you need to make at least two bracelets, including wire, 3mm beads, decorative beads for the bracelet and leather.
